My adorable and slightly embarrassed daughter participated in Apple Valley Day today. I think I was more excited than she was. Maybe it's my love of history or seeing Grace dressed like Laura Ingalls Wilder that brought out my enthusiam? In any case I had been waiting weeks for this event! Apple Valley Day is when all the third grade classrooms at Lafayette Elementary are transformed into a 19th century school house: dunce cap, hitting kids knuckles with wooden rulers, spelling bee, a lot of "yes mam" and "no sir". You get the picture. Each student played a character. Grace was the oldest in the class at 13 years of age and her name for the day was Marla Lee. (hee...hee...I had to chuckle) Kudos to Lafayette Elementary School teachers for creating an engaging and fun way of teaching history! Marla Lee sure enjoyed her journey back to 1876!
