The Next "Cake Boss" And Other Happenings

I am finally blogging!
It has been a busy month here in the Crancer household. Grandma Espy came to visit last weekend. We enjoyed spending time with her and she helped out a lot with Emma. Sherman and I even got the opportunity to see a movie- The Social Network. For some odd reason ( glorious grandparents visiting) Sherman and I have had the opportunity to see three movies this past month- Black Swan, The Kings Speech & The Social Network. Suprise, suprise...we actually knew what was going on during the Oscars last night! I have also had the time to read three (well two great books and one not so great book). I highly recommend reading "The Help" and "Three Cups of Tea" if you're looking for a good read. Stay away from "P.S. I Love You" - not such a great read. This has been my first year NOT in school in a very long time and I am obsessed with leisurely reading! I am currently reading my first very juicy Danielle Steel novel (thanks Grandma Espy!) and hoping it will occupy me during labor and delivery. Speaking of which, we are scheduled to deliver Audrey Belle on March 17th, if she naturally doesn't arrive sooner. She will be a Saint Patty's baby- per Sherman's request.
Anyways, the whole point of this post was to brag about Grace's cupcake making skills. She is currently taking a cupcake decorating class after school on Mondays and she has come home with some pretty amazing cupcakes. The little puppy pictured below has been my favorite so far. The class ends in May so I'm sure the cupcakes will become more elaborate with each passing week. Perhaps she is the future "Cake Boss"?! Other news in Grace's life is that she got braces (check out her cute picture below) and she started soccer last week. She's a busy young lady!
Other not so great news...
My darling husband has been ill the past month. It started out at the end of January. Sherman came home from tennis with a sore back and abdomen. We thought he pulled a muscle. Oh how WRONG we were! Over the next week the pain got progressively worse landing him in the ER. Blood was drawn, morphine was given- the doctor came back and said it was his pancreas causing the problems. His blood work came back with enzymes correlating to pancreatic problems. Strange. We saw an upper GI specialist. He said Sherman did not have pancreatitis and the pain was from taking too much Motrin prior to playing tennis. He told us Sherman has to lose weight and has type 2 Diabetes. Perhaps it was an ulcer and a combination of Diabetes that was causing the pain. Sherman was ordered to get x-rays at Mission Hospital. We went and NOTHING was found. So we felt like we were on an episode of my favorite show "Mystery Diagnosis". Although I love watching "MD", I don't necessarily want to re-enact the show in my personal life. The pain continued off and on for the past month, Sherman got through the day on pain killers and rest, we were perplexed until this past weekend. Sherman came home from tennis (he only played for 10 minutes before the pain came back with a vengeance). He couldn't take it any longer and we went to the ER. He was given a CT Scan and guess what was FINALLY found, after 30 days of playing Mystery Diagnosis, a Kidney Stone! So the poor guy is passing a Kidney Stone for the past month and this weekend was particularly bad. We spent Friday and Saturday night in the hospital with Sherman on a Morphine drip. Friday night was particularly disgusting as all the rooms were filled and Sherman spent his time on a bed in the hallway. The woman across from us was vomiting so loud and persistently that I almost left my dear husband and ran for cover. Instead I grabbed a mask and endured the projectile vomiting that was occurring less than 10 feet away. One of the nurses walked by me and said "excuse me mam, why are you wearing the mask?" Um... am I the only one that does NOT want the disgusting illness that is happening 10 feet away from me and have you seen my 9 month pregnant stomach?! The night gets even more gross when Sherman's nurse takes out his IV wrong and blood squirts everywhere. I am apparently the only one who noticed this, I started screaming "BLOOD" and the nurse caught on. Meanwhile my husband's face looked like a ghost and he had a pool of sweat dripping from his forehead. He started leaning back as if to pass out and luckily we all caught him and put him on the bed. The nurse yells for a doctor to come and help her with what is going on as she has never had this happen before. Clean up in Hall 27! I couldn't watch the whole "lets fix the busted, blood squirting IV" and I turned my head but continued to hold Sherman's hand. Anyways after all that drama we were discharged at 8:45 with a pain prescription. We went to fill the meds at our local CVS and the pharmacy closed 4 minutes before we got there. AGGGHHHH! So we had to drive all the way down to the 24 hour CVS in San Clemente. On the way there my poor husband becomes very nauseous and proceeds to get very ill. Luckily he told me to pull over. We finally arrived home at 10:30 only to repeat the same scenerio on Saturday night (minus the vomiting and IV issue). The stone has still not passed and we are praying that it is close (the doctor said it is). Keep Sherman in your prayers for a speedy recovery and to NEVER have to experience this again!

  1. O NO!! Poor Sherman!
I totally know the pain of a kidney stone.
I had one during the last couple months of pregnancy. Its been said that its comparable to labor. Ive decided that its true. It was actually worse.
I lived on vicodin to keep the pain episodes away until over a month later when i had Forest.
It came out on its own though!
