* We went to "Pretend City" last week in Irvine. So fun ... pictures to follow.
*Lily-Mae is driving me bananas with her sleep schedule! She has such a hard time falling asleep on her own. I try and rock her, nurse her, shush her etc.... But sometimes I think it makes the situation worse. Today I let her cry it out for 5-10 minutes (but seems like hours!) and now she's fast asleep in her bouncy seat. I feel terrible letting her CIO but I know she's over tired and just needs to get some more sleep. STRESSFUL! I know I'm a veteran mom but each child is different and any sleeping suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
*Pretty much every time I get Lily calm enough to fall asleep - Emma comes along and startles her. Sometimes I get so frustrated but it's not Emma's fault. She doesn't understand what quiet means yet.
*I went out today and used the double stroller in a store ALL. BY. MYSELF. Three cheers for me! The double wide had intimidated me for months and I have been using Emma's old Bugaboo and putting Lily Mae in the Baby Bjorn. The problem was I kept having to wake Lily up and put her in the carrier ... which made her so upset (rightfully so) and then she would cry trying to get back to sleep. Not Fun (for Lily or her Mama). Just folding the thing and putting it back in the trunk completely terrified me. But I did it and the folding/ unfolding was actually super easy. And I have no idea why all this time I thought I needed Sherman there to use it. The stroller actually fit through the door (I kept trying to figure out how I could angle it through doorways and the idea totally stressed me out) and I could fairly easily maneuver it through the aisles. Lily slept happily for 15 minutes until Emma screamed in her face and woke her up. But that's another story ...
*I am reading the book "New York" by Edward Rutherford. I'm only on page 30 and have about 750 more pages to go. I am determined to finish it by the end of the summer. I'm just happy life has slowed down a little bit and I can indulge in a good book - even if it's only for 15 minutes a day.
*Emma is super EMO when people she doesn't know look at her or talk to her. Do any of you mom's of two year olds experience this?
* I ordered Emma a mini bounce house for her 2nd b-day. It's in the shape of a castle and we are going to put it in the backyard. We rented it for 8 hours :)
*Grace is attending a lot of camps this summer : Cooking, Volleyball, Golf, Pottery Camp (at the San Juan Capistrano Mission - I would like to attend that one!). I can't wait to see what she makes on the pottery wheel ... maybe something I can use in the kitchen :)
*My sister is graduating with her Masters in Psychology next month. I'm so proud of her! She has worked incredibly hard and is truly gifted in her field of work :) GO CINDY!
*I really want to get furniture for our "formal" living room. We've been here a year now and I have a pile of fabrics waiting to be made into chairs and couches. Hint ... hint if you're reading this Sherm :)
That's about it ... hope you all have a great week!

  1. How is Lily-Mae's sleep been since this post? I have to admit, I'm a big fan of CIO. It worked with my girls and with Jimmy. As long as I know he's fed and dry, I have no problem with letting a baby fuss himself to sleep. Jimmy usually cries for about five minutes before falling asleep, and sometimes it's VERY loud, angry crying, but then he drops off and sleeps. But it's definitely not an approach for everyone, so I hope you find something that works for you!

Also, my Becky hated for strangers to approach her when she had just turned 2. It's much better now that she's almost 3, although she's still not as social as her sister. But I think the 2-year stage is tricky, so hang in there!
